Apoyando al Pastor Rolando al Salir

     Después de aproximadamente doce años de ministerio en Calvary McAllen, el Pastor Rolando Aguirre ha aceptado el llamado para servir en la iglesia Park Cities Baptist Church en Dallas.  Al hacer el anuncio hoy, experimentamos tanto gozo como tristeza.  Amamos a Rolando y nos duele que se vaya.  Ha sido parte de nuestra familia espiritual y de nuestra identidad.  Estamos contentos por él porque sabemos que está siguiendo el llamado de Dios.  Esta nueva oportunidad lo permitirá usar sus dones y talentos en la extensión del reino de Dios.

     Ya que el Dr. Aguirre ha buscado el liderazgo del Señor en oración y ayuno, y ya que entendemos que esta es la voluntad de Dios, creemos firmemente que esto será de beneficio para su ministerio, para nuestra iglesia hermana, Park Cities, y para Calvary.  Si Dios está guiando, entonces es bueno para todos aunque no sea fácil para todos.  Somos una iglesia enfocada en el reino.  Estamos comprometidos a la misión de Dios más allá de nuestras cuatro paredes.

     Sin embargo esta no ha sido una decisión fácil para Rolando y para la familia Aguirre.  Ellos han amado a Calvary y al Valle Río Grande y consideraron quedarse indefinidamente.  No obstante, después de muchos meses de sentir el llamado de Dios, de múltiples conversaciones, y de mucha oración, están convencidos que esto es lo que sigue en el plan soberano de Dios.

Un Ministerio Creciente y Vibrante en Calvary 

     Cuando el Pastor Rolando llegó a Calvary nuestro ministerio en español consistía de un grupo pequeño quienes se reunían en el parlor los miércoles por la noche.  Desde ese entonces Dios lo ha usado para levantar un equipo de líderes, desarrollar múltiples programas en español y crecer en asistencia en el servicio de las 12:30 PM.  El servicio en español cuenta con la asistencia mayor de cualquiera de nuestros tres servicios dominicales.  Los programas de WIT en español, el Instituto de Capacitación Calvary, Evangelismo Explosivo y alcance cuenta con fuerza y mucha vida.

     La posición de Rolado Aguirre en Calvary ha sido como Pastor del Ministerio en Español y Líder del Equipo de Discipulado.  Aunque la mayoría de sus responsabilidades han sido en el área de español, también ha tenido asignaciones generales.  Ha dado liderazgo al los programs en inglés EQUIP, WIT, y ha supervisado a los pastores Marcus y Susan.  Ha servido en cada una de esas área con fidelidad y excelencia. 

     Estamos agradecidos por el liderazgo del Dr. Aguirre y su inversión en nuestra iglesia.  Calvary no es la misma debido a su liderazgo.  ¡Calvary en el año 2020 es más fuerte, más saludable, más diversa, y mejor en todos los sentidos!  Los miembros del servicio en español sirven en todos nuestros comités y en nuestro diaconado.  Los hermanos del ministerio en español ofrecen una fuerza de voluntarios a los ministerios de Pan de Vida, Niños y el Cuatro de Julio.
     
     Al salir el Pastor Rolando estamos confiados que Dios ha levantado un ministerio con líderes fieles y comprometidos.  El ministerio en español esta posicionado con fuerza y crecimiento para el futuro.

Último Domingo y Despedida (8 y 9 de Febrero)

     El último día de Rolando en Calvary será el domingo 9 de febrero.  Tendremos una oración de comisión en cada uno de nuestros tres servicios ese mismo domingo.  El Hno. Aguirre principiará su transición a Dallas casi inmediatamente mientras Janet y los niños permanecen en el Valle para concluir su año escolar.

     Tendremos una despedida para Rolando y su familia el,

Sábado, 8 de febrero a las 6:00 PM en el Centro Estudiantil.

     El nuevo papel del Dr. Aguirre en la iglesia Park Cities Baptist Church, Dallas, será como Pastor Asociado de Enseñanza y del Ministerio en Español.  Tendrá la oportunidad de predicar y enseñar a nivel general pero su asignación principal será dirigir el grupo pequeño en español dentro de la iglesia a revitalizarse y crecer hacia la multiplicación.  Rolando ha compartido que sus dones son aptos para establecer nuevos ministerios y luego seguir al próximo.  También ha dicho que las iglesia misionales aprender a decir "adios."  A veces enviamos a otros.  A veces somos enviados.  Las discipuladores misionales capacitan, envían y son enviados.

     Oremos por el Pastor Rolando, la familia Aguirre y nuestra congregación durante este tiempo de transición y de confiar en el Señor.

Vacancias en el Personal de Calvary en Español

     Habrá anuncios futuros en cuanto a las vacancias en el personal de Calvary en Español pero comparto información inmediata que es relevante y que pudiera contestar algunas preguntas.

     Con la salida del Pastor Rolando, tenemos dos vacancias en Calvary en Español:

1. Pastor del Ministerio en Español y Líder de Discipulado (Tiempo Completo)
2. Asociado del Ministerio en Español (Tiempo-Parcial) 

     Nuestro personal actual tiene varias responsabilidades y las necesidades del ministerio en español son varias.  Por lo tanto queremos asegurarnos que haya personal adecuado al ministerio.  He estado en consulta con el comité de personal para discutir los siguientes pasos.

     Hemos ocupado al Dr. Julio Varela como Asociado Interino a Tiempo Parcial en el Ministerio en Español (ver #2 arriba) quien principiará su empleo en Calvary el 27 de enero.  (Esta será una posición que ha estado vacante desde la primavera del 2019).  Compartiré más acerca del Dr. Varela en próximas comunicaciones.

     Llenar la posición que Rolando dejará vacante se llevará tiempo.  En primer lugar, la posición cambiará título y nivel de responsabilidad.  El Pastor Rolando llenó un papel vita por los primero doce años que Calvary en Español.  Sin embargo, al entrar al 2020 entramos en una nueva época de Calvary en general y de Calvary en español particularmente.

     Al desarrollar el título y descripción de la nueva posición el Pastor General y el comité de personal, y eventualmente la iglesia, mantendremos un par de cosas en mente:

1. Seremos sensibles a las necesidades particulares del ministerio en Español y proveeremos liderazgo y cuidado pastoral de tal manera que continuemos haciendo discipuladores para la gloria de Dios entre las naciones. 
2. Buscaremos la salud, fuerza y crecimiento de la iglesia en general.  Estamos comprometidos a funcionar como una iglesia y nuestra equipo pastoral necesita dar liderazgo y proveer ministerio para ambas porciones de nuestra congregación: inglés y español.

     El papel que el Hno. Aguirre llenó predicando el servicio en español casa cada domingo y llevando todas las necesidades de liderazgo y cuidado pastoral para Calvary en español fue singular a sus dones y para los primeros doce años del ministerio.  El futuro será diferente.  El púlpito en el servicio en español será compartido por el Pastor General y por otros predicadores dotados en nuestra congregación.  El liderazgo y las necesidades de cuidado pastoral serán asignadas a miembros del equipo pastoral.  El título y la descripción de trabajo del siguiente pastor que se una a nuestra equipo serán distintos a los del Pastor Rolando.

     Comunicaremos en los días siguientes y traeremos una recomendación a la Iglesia en Conferencia en el momento apropiado.

     Favor de orar por nuestro equipo pastora, por el comité de personal y por la congregación al seguir la dirección del Espíritu Santo fielmente.

Supporting Pastor Rolando in New Call

     After approximately twelve years of ministry at Calvary Baptist Church, McAllen, Pastor Rolando Aguirre has accepted a call to serve on the staff of Park Cities Baptist Church in Dallas.  As we make this announcement today, we experience both joy and sadness.  We love Rolando and it hurts to let him go.  He has been part of our church family and identity.  We are happy for him because we know he is following God's call.  This new opportunity will allow him to use his gifts and talents in the extension of the kingdom of God.

     Since Dr. Aguirre has sought the Lord's leadership in prayer and fasting, and since we understand this to be God's will, we firmly believe that it will be good for his ministry, good for our sister church, Park Cities, and good for Calvary.  If God is in it, then it is good for all of us even if it is not easy on all of us.  We are a kingdom-minded church.  We are committed to God's mission beyond our four walls.

     Needless to say this has not been an easy decision for Rolando and the Aguirre family.  They have grown to love Calvary and the RGV and often saw themselves as staying indefinitely.  However, after many months of sensing God's call, multiple conversations, and much prayer, they are convinced this is what is next in God's plan.

A Growing and Vibrant Ministry at Calvary

     When Pastor Rolando came to Calvary our Spanish language ministry consisted of a handful of people who met in the parlor on Wednesday nights.  Since then God used him to raise a team of leaders, develop multiple Spanish language programs and grow the Sunday morning Spanish language service attendance.  The 12:30 PM service counts with the largest attendance of any of our three Calvary Sunday services.  The WIT en español, Instituto de Capacitación Calvary (our Spanish language training institute on Wednesday nights), Evangelismo Explosivo and outreach programs of the SLM are vibrant and growing.

     Rolando Aguirre's position at Calvary has been Pastor of Spanish Language Ministry and Discipleship Team Leader.  Although most of his responsibilities were in the Spanish language area, he also had church-wide assignments.  He gave leadership to EQUIP and WIT and he supervised Pastors Marcus and Susan.  He served in each of those areas faithfully and with excellence.

     We are so thankful for Dr. Aguirre's leadership and his investment in our congregation.  Calvary is not the same because of his leadership.  Calvary Baptist Church in 2020 is stronger, healthier, more diverse, and overall better!  Members from the Spanish Language Ministry serve in all of our committees and in our deacon body.  People from the Spanish service are a volunteer force that help keep Bread of Life, Children's Ministry, and Fourth of July stay strong.

     As Pastor Rolando exits we are confident that God has raised a ministry with faithful and committed leaders.  The Spanish language ministry is poised for strength and future growth.

Last Sunday and Farewell Reception (February 8 & 9)

     Rolando's last day at Calvary will be Sunday, February 9th.  We will have a commissioning prayer for them at each of our three services on that same Sunday. Bro. Aguirre will begin his transition to Dallas shortly thereafter while Janet and the children remain in the RGV so they can conclude their school year.

     We will have a farewell reception for Rolando and his family on:

Saturday, February 8th at 6:00 PM
in the Student Center.

     Dr. Aguirre's new role at Park Cities Baptist Church Dallas will be Associate Pastor of Teaching and Spanish Language Ministry.  He will have opportunity to preach and teach at the church-wide level but his biggest assignment will be to lead a small Spanish language group within the church to revitalize and grow toward multiplication.  Rolando has shared with the pastoral staff and the Spanish congregation that he feels his gifting is for establishing new ministries and then moving to the next one.  He also has said that missional churches say "good-bye" often.  Sometimes they send others.  Sometimes they are sent.  People in missional churches train, send and are sent.

     Please pray for Pastor Rolando, the Aguirre family and our congregation during this time of transition and trusting the Lord.

Staff Vacancies at Calvary en Español

     There will be future announcements regarding the staff vacancies for Calvary en Español but I share immediate information that is relevant and might answer some questions.

     With Pastor Rolando's exit, we have two staff vacancies in the Spanish Language Ministry:

1. Pastor of Spanish Language Ministry and DT Leader (Full-time)
2. Associate for Spanish Language Ministry (Part-time)

     As we look at our current staff who is spread out thin and the many needs of our Spanish Language congregation, we want to make sure we appropriately staff the ministry.  I have been in consultation with the personnel committee to discuss the steps ahead.

     I have hired Dr. Julio Varela as an Interim Part-Time Associate for Spanish Language Ministry (see #2 above) who will begin his employment at Calvary on January 27.  (This is a position that has been vacant since the spring of 2019).  I will share more about Dr. Varela in upcoming communications.

     Filling the position that Rolando will leave vacant will take sometime.  In the first place, the position will change title and scope.  Pastor Rolando filled a vital role for the first twelve years of Calvary en Español.  However, as we enter 2020 it is a new era for Calvary in general and for Calvary en español in particular.

     As the new position title and description is developed by the Lead Pastor and the personnel committee, and eventually approved by the church, a couple of things will guide us:

1. We will be sensitive to particular needs of the Spanish language ministry and we will provide the leadership and pastoral care it requires to continue to make disciple-makers for the glory of God among the nations;
2. We will seek the health, strength and growth of the entire church.  We are committed to functioning as one church and our pastoral staff team needs to give leadership and provide ministry for both English and Spanish language portions of our church.

     The role that Bro. Aguirre filled preaching in the Spanish service almost every Sunday and caring for all the leadership and pastoral care needs of Calvary en español was unique to his gifting and to the first twelve years of the ministry.  The future will look different.  The pulpit in the Spanish service will be shared by the Lead Pastor and other gifted preachers in our congregation.  The leadership and pastoral care needs will be assigned to specific staff members.  The position title and job description of the next pastor that joins our team will be different than that of Pastor Rolando.

     We will communicate at important junctures and bring a recommendation to the Church in Conference at the right time.

     Please pray for our pastoral staff team, the personnel committee and the Spanish language congregation as we follow the Holy Spirit faithfully.

Tiroteos y Seguridad en la Iglesia

          Nos entristece mucho el tiroteo en la iglesia West Freeway Church of Christ de White Settlement, Texas.  Yo viví en Fort Worth por diecisiete años y estoy familiarizado con el área de White Settlement.  Aunque esto nos afecta a todos los que vivimos en Texas, a todas las iglesias, y a toda la humanidad, para mi, en lo personal, esto llega muy cerca.

          Nunca se me olvidará el trauma del tiroteo en la iglesia Wedgwood Baptist en Fort Worth hace veinte años (1999).  En ese entonces serví como pastor en esa ciudad y nuestro grupo de jóvenes se dirigía hacia la iglesia Wedgwood.  A nuestro group de jóvenes se le hizo tarde y evadió la horrible tragedia por cuestión de minutos.

          Hace apenas dos años, otra iglesia bautista en Texas sufrió una masacre horrible.  La iglesia First Baptist de Sutherland Springs, a menos de cuatro horas de distancia de McAllen, experimentó el horror de un asaltante armado durante unos de sus servicios dominicales.  ¡Esto nunca debiera sucerder!  ¡Desafortunadamente los templos no son sagrados para los que son llevados por la maldad!

Nuestra Respuesta

         Como Pastor General de la Iglesia Calvary, McAllen, tengo tres asuntos en mi mente ahora, y urjo a toda la congregación a unirse a mi en ellas: (1) Orar y estar en solidaridad con la iglesia en White Settlement, para que Dios les traiga sanidad, consuelo y redención en medio de tal tragedia.  (2) Estar informados y ser proactivos en cuanto a la salud mental y emocional (orar, identificar, alcanzar, referir, proveer consejería, etc.). (3) Estar preparados para responder a amenazas o asaltos en nuestra congregación.

         Aunque no deseamos en ningún momento que una tragedia de esta índole suceda aquí en Calvary, estamos comprometidos a estar listos para responder.  Estamos comprometidos a la seguridad de cada persona en nuestro plantel incluyendo a nuestros niños, nuestros estudiantes, nuestros adultos, y nuestros hermanos de la tercera edad.    

Nuestras Medidas

          En el transcurso de varios años hemos puesto ciertas medidas de seguridad en nuestro plantel y estamos constantemente evaluándolas y revisándolas.  Aquí comparto algunas de ellas para que puedas orar y estar informado.  También mencionaré formas en las cuales puedes tu ayudar a mantener nuestro plantel seguro.        

        Equipo de Seguridad.  Hace algunos años que la Pastora Susan y el Pastor Paulo reclutaron a un Equipo de Seguridad para nuestra iglesia.  (La Pastora Susan y el Pastor Paulo han participado en varias conferencias de seguridad, tanto presencialmente como en línea).

        El equipo de seguridad tiene una tarea amplia.  Aconsejan y dirigen varias áreas que ayudan a mantener a nuestra congregación y nuestro plantel seguros, incluyendo (1) prevención de abuso infantil (2) emergencias médicas (3) prevención/respuesta a asaltos o asaltadores armados.

         El equipo consiste de las siguientes personas: Israel Pacheco, Melinda Rodriguez, Brent McBain, Mario Cesar Samaniego, Jeff Bridwell, Rudy Rios, Susan Sosebee y Paulo Gatan.  Adicionalmente hemos invitado a otros a nuestras reuniones de seguridad, incluyendo a Gilda Rios, Ruben Rojas, David Heflin, Sebastian Montes, Alex Rosario, Chad Gatlin, Wayne and Chelan Williams, Paul and Charlene Koch, Harry Raksoky, etc.  (Varios de estos son miembros de los cuerpos policiales.  Otros tiene licencias para portar armas de fuego).

        El equipo de seguridad comparte un "chat" el cual utilizan durante los servicios para comunicarse entre ellos acerca de actividad sospechosa, a veces para estar alertas, y a veces para intervenir según la necesidad.

         Primera manera en la que puedes ayudar.  Si deseas unirte a este equipo, favor de comunicarte con uno de los pastores asignados o con un miembro del equipo de seguridad para ser considerado.

        Política en Cuanto a Armas de Fuego en Calvary.  El equipo de seguridad de Calvary tiene una política de "no portar armas visibles" (no open carry), lo cual quiere decir que las personas no pueden portar armas de fuego en una forma visible en nuestro plantel a menos de que sean miembros de cuerpos policiales en uniforme.  Adicionalmente el equipo ha acordado que sí se permite portar armas de fuego ocultas (conceal carry) en nuestro plantel siempre y cuando la persona tenga una licencia para ello.

          Sabemos de varios miembros de cuerpos policiales y de otros civiles que portan armas de fuego ocultamente en nuestro plantel y en nuestros servicios de adoración.  En la mayoría de los casos sabemos a cual servicio acuden y en donde se sientan en el santuario.         

          Las leyes de Texas permiten que las iglesias tengan estas políticas.  El evento en la iglesia West Freeway Church of Christ en White Settlement solo duró segundos y se evitaron muchas muertes porque la iglesia tenía políticas similares a las nuestras y el equipo de seguridad actuó con prontitud.

         Una segunda manera en la cual puedes ayudar.  Si tienes licencia para portar arma de fuego ocultamente, te instamos a que lo comuniques a uno de los pastores o miembros del equipo de seguridad.  Esto facilitará la comunicación en el equipo.  También le ayudará al equipo saber quienes son "los buenos" y quienes son "los malos" en caso de un evento de disparos.

         Cámaras de Seguridad.  Aunque siempre hemos tenido varias cámaras de seguridad, recientemente hemos aumentado la cantidad de cámaras.  Actualmente tenemos cámaras en cada salón infantil, en cada pasillo, y en lugares amplios como el gimnasio y el santuario.  Estas cámaras son monitoriadas en dos sitios de nuestro plantel.

          Una tercera manera en la cual puedes ayudar.  Necesitamos más voluntarios para ayudar a monitoriar las cámaras de seguridad.  Entre más voluntarios tengamos menos tiempo se pierden los voluntarios de un servicio o estudio bíblico.  Si tenemos 13 voluntarios, solo lo tienen que hacer una vez cada tres meses.  Si tenemos 26 voluntarios, solo lo tienen que hacer una vez cada seis meses.

          Oficial de Policía.  Por varios años hemos contratado a un oficial de la policía para que camine en nuestro plantel de tal forma que el elemento criminal lo note y listo para intervenir cuando sea necesario.

           Una cuarta manera en la que puedes ayudar.  Aunque deseamos que seas cordial y amable con el oficial de policia contratado, favor de no entablar conversación con él o ella.  Su trabajo es estar alerta y no deben ser distraídos por otros.  Reporta cualquier actividad o persona sospechosa al oficial.

            Seguridad en el Edificio de Niños.  Hemos equipado nuestro edificio de niños con sistemas de comunicación que permiten a los que están a cargo saber lo que está sucediendo en otras partes del plantel.  Adicionalmente hemos invertido en cerraduras y sistemas electrónicos para implementar un "cierre" (lock down) en caso de emergencia. 

           Existen otras medidas que hemos implementado para mantener a nuestra congregación segura.  Sin embargo estas son suficientes para que estes informado.  También queremos que sepas como puedes ayudar.  Aquí está la lista de las formas en las cuales puedes ayudar:

1. Manténte vigilante y comunica
2. Se amable con todos nuestros visitantes, reconócelos y establece conversación con ellos
3. Reporta inquietudes y actividad sospechosa al equipo pastoral o al oficial de policía contratado o al equipo de seguridad
4. Únete al equipo de seguridad 
5. Informa al equipo pastoral o al equipo de seguridad si portas arma oculta
6. Ofrécete de voluntario para monitorear las cámaras de seguridad 

         Aunque todas estas son importantes, nuestra necesidad más urgente al momento es la sexta.  Tus acciones pueden prevenir una tragedia y quizá salvar varias vidas también.

          Vivimos en un mundo caído donde hay muchas personas enfermas mentalmente o emocionalmente.  El enemigo busca hurtar, matar y destruir (Juan 10:10a).  Predicamos un evangelio de redención el cual ofrece esperanza a todas las personas (Juan 10:10b).  Continuaremos predicando y viviendo redentivamente en este lado de la eternidad (Juan 10:16).  Anhelamos el día cuando el mal será eliminado y viviremos en paz con nuestro Redentor para siempre.  Hasta ese día, estaremos alertas, oraremos, y estaremos listos para proteger al rebaño de Dios.  Cristo es nuestro Buen Pastor (Juan 10:11-15).

Shootings, Safety and Security at Church

       We are very saddened by the shooting at the West Freeway Church of Christ in White Settlement, Texas.  I lived in Fort Worth for seventeen years and I am familiar with the White Settlement community.  So, while this affects all Texans, all churches, all Americans and all humanity, it feels very close to me personally.  

          I will never forget the trauma of the Wedgwood Baptist Church shooting in Fort Worth twenty years ago (1999).  At that time I served as pastor in that city and our youth were en route to a rally held at Wedgwood.  Our youth group ran late and missed the awful tragedy by minutes.

       Two years ago, another Baptist church in Texas suffered a horrible massacre.  The First Baptist Church of Sutherland Springs, less than a four-hour drive from McAllen, experienced the horror of a gunman during their worship service.  This kind of thing should never happen!  Unfortunately places of worship are not sacred to people driven by evil!

Our Response

        As Lead Pastor of Calvary Baptist Church, McAllen, I have three primary concerns at this time, and I urge our church to join me in these: (1) Pray and stand with the church in White Settlement, so that God will bring healing and redemption in the midst of such a tragedy.  (2) Be informed and proactive about mental and emotional health (pray, identify, reach out, refer, provide counseling, etc.).  (3) Be prepared to respond to a threat or assault on our congregation.

       While we hope and pray a tragedy of this sort will never happen at Calvary, we are committed to be prepared to respond.  We are committed to the safety and security of every single person on our campus including our children, our students, our adults, and our senior adults.

Our Measures

        Over the course of several years we have put in place safety and security measures, which we are constantly evaluating and refining.  Allow me to share some of those with you so that you can continue to both pray and be aware.  I will also mention ways in which you can help keep our campus secure.

        Safety and Security Team.  A few years ago Pastor Susan and Pastor Paulo enlisted a Safety and Security Team for our church.  (Pastor Susan and Pastor Paulo have attended several trainings in this regard, both in person and online).

        The safety and security team has a large scope.  They advise and lead in various areas that help keep our congregation and our campus safe including (1) child abuse prevention (2) medical emergencies and (3) prevention/response to assaults or active shooter events.

         The team consists of the following people: Israel Pacheco, Melinda Rodriguez, Brent McBain, Mario Cesar Samaniego, Jeff Bridwell, Rudy Rios, Susan Sosebee and Paulo Gatan.  In addition, we have invited others to our safety and security meetings, including Gilda Rios, Ruben Rojas, David Heflin, Sebastian Montes, Alex Rosario, Chad Gatlin, Wayne and Chelan Williams, Paul and Charlene Koch, Harry Raksoky, etc.  (Several of these folks are law enforcement officers.  Others have conceal carry licenses).

        The security portion of the team has a real time chat group that they have often used during services to communicate with each other about suspicious activity, sometimes just to keep alert, other times to intervene as necessary.

         First way you can help.  If you'd like to join this team, please contact one of the staff pastors or team members listed above so you can be considered.

        CBC's Firearm Policy.  The Safety and Security Team has set a policy of "no open carry," which means individuals are not allowed to carry a fire arm visibly into the church campus unless he/she is a uniformed law enforcement officers.  The team has also agreed to a "concealed carry" policy, which means individuals with a concealed carry license may bring their fire arm into the church campus.

         We are aware of several law enforcement and private citizens who conceal carry their weapon on campus and during our worship services.  In most instances we are aware of which service they attend and where they sit in the worship center.

          Texas law allows for churches to have the above policies.  The event at the West Freeway Church of Christ in White Settlement was over in a matter of seconds because the church had a similar policy to ours and their security team acted promptly.  Read about it here.

         A second way you can help.  If you have a conceal carry license and you carry your weapon in church, we encourage you to share that with one our pastoral staff members or one of our safety and security team members.  This will help the team in communication.  It will also help the team know who are "the good people" vs. "the bad people" should an incident ensue.

         Security Cameras.  While we have always had security cameras in strategic places, recently we have increased the amount of cameras.  Currently every children's classroom has a camera, every major hallway, and large gathering places such as the gym and the worship center.  These cameras are monitored from two different locations on campus.

          A third way you can help.  We need more volunteers to help monitor security cameras.  The more volunteers we have the less our volunteers would need to miss a worship service or a Bible study class.  If we had 13 volunteers, they would only have to do it once a quarter.  If we had 26 volunteers, they would only have to do it twice a year.

          Off-duty Police Officer.  For several years now we have hired an off-duty police officer to walk around our campus to deter evil-intended people and to intervene when necessary.

           A fourth way you can help.  While we encourage you to be friendly and cordial to the off-duty police officer, please refrain from having conversation with him/her.  They're job is to be alert and they do not need distractions.  Report any suspicious activity to the officer.

            Children's Building Security.  We have equipped our children's building with communications systems that allow them to know in real time what is occurring on our campus.  Additionally, we have invested in hardware and electronic systems that allow us to do a lock down of the building in the case of an emergency.

           While there are several other measures we have taken to keep our congregation and our campus secure, these are some of which we wanted you to be aware.  We also want you to know that you can help.  Here's a list of the ways in a summary form:

1. Be alert and communicate
2. Be cordial to all guests, acknowledge and interact with them
3. Report concerns or suspicious activity to staff or security and safety team or off-duty police officer
4. Join the safety and security team
5. Inform the pastoral staff or safety and security team if you conceal carry
6. Volunteer to monitor security cameras

         While all of these are important, our biggest need currently is the sixth one (volunteer to monitor security cameras).  Your actions can help prevent a tragedy and perhaps even the loss of life.

          We live in a broken world where there are many mentally and emotionally ill people.  The enemy seeks to steal, kill, and destroy (John 10:10a).  We preach a gospel of redemption that offers hope to all people (John 10:10b).  We will continue to preach and to live redemptively on this side of eternity (John 10:16).  We long for the day when evil will be eliminated and we we live in peace with our Savior forever.  Until that day, we will be alert, pray and be ready to protect God's flock.  Jesus is our Good Shepherd (John 10:11-15).

Abraza la Unidad: Orar, Servir, Dar

     "Abraza la Unidad: Orar, Servir, Dar" es nuestro lema de octubre en Calvary.  Al explorar el libro de Efesios juntos, la Biblia nos llama, 

Hagan todo lo posible por mantenerse unidos en el Espíritu y enlazados mediante la paz.

(Efesios 4:3 NTV)

La unidad en la iglesia require una nueva actitud, nuestras oraciones, nuestro servicio, nuestra generosidad y nuestro amor mutuo.  Todas estás son importantes, pero como equipo pastoral de Calvary, sentimos que la mayor prioridad ahora es la oración.

     Así que convocamos a nuestra congregación Calvary a un mes de oración aumentada.  Cada año tenemos por lo menos una temporada de oración intensa en nuestra iglesia.  A veces lo hacemos en primavera, a veces en otoño, y ocasionalmente ambos.  Este año lo estamos haciendo en primavera y otoño.  El mes de octubre nos comprometemos a oración unida por Su iglesia.

     Dios está haciendo cosas grandes en nuestra iglesia.  Nuestra renovación del Centro Estudiantil fue un éxito completo.  Nuestra ministerio estudiantil está creciendo. Casi cada semana alguien decide seguir a Cristo y se bautiza como creyente.  Cada mes hay nuevos miembros.  Nuestros grupos de vida y grupos en casa están llenos de vitalidad.  Nuestro punto de conexión va progresando.  Nuestra participación los miércoles ha aumentado.  Estamos alcanzando cientos de personas por medio del ministerio a la comunidad.  El ministerio de hombres ha crecido.  El ministerio a parejas se ha fortalecido.  Estamos haciendo discipuladores cada semana.  Y estas son solamente algunas de las cosas que Dios está haciendo.

     Por otro lado estamos enfrentando algunos desafíos.  Algunos proyectos llevan retraso por razones inesperadas.  Varios de nuestros líderes tienen un ser querido con situaciones médicas serias.  Tenemos familias y matrimonios que están pasando por pruebas difíciles.  Y nuestra iglesia se encuentra en un déficit con el presupuesto sin precedentes.  Estos son algunos de los desafíos que enfrentamos al cumplir la Gran Comisión y el Gran Mandamiento.  Nos recuerda que necesitamos estar dependiendo de Dios continuamente.

     Nuestro equipo pastoral desea que oremos y busquemos al Señor para mantenernos unidos, para que el enemigo sea derrotado, para no distraernos de la misión de Dios, y para que Dios sane nuestras heridas del pasado.

     Invitamos a todos a escoger un día de la semana en el cual cada persona se enfocará en oración intercediendo por los perdidos, por la unidad de la iglesia, por obreros para el reino de Dios, y por el financiamiento de la misión de Dios por medio de Calvary.  Algunos quizá escojan ayunar un día a la semana.  Ya sea que escojas ayunar, o aún si no puedes ayunar, te pedimos que dedique más tiempo intencionalmente a la oración ferviente.

     Adicionalmente les pedimos a los Grupos de Conexión, a los Grupos de Vida, a las Iglesias en Casa, y a otros ministerios que dediquen más tiempo en sus sesiones para orar este mes.  A nivel grupo los participantes pueden compartir peticiones de oración personales y orar unos por los otros.

     A nivel congregacional los énfasis de oración serán los siguientes:

Semana 1 (Octubre 1-12):

1. Unidad en la Iglesia (Calvary y en el Valle Río Grande) 
2. Proceso de Evaluación y Nombramiento de Diáconos 
3. Ministerio de Niños

3. El Ministerio Estudiantil

1. Matrimonios 
2. Ofrendas al Presupuesto y Desarrollo del Presupuesto 2020 
3. Grupos de Conexión, Grupos de Vida, WIT, y Hombres

Semana 4 (Octubre 27-Noviembre 2)

1. Énfasis de Misiones
2. Proceso de Nombramientos para Comités
3. Ministerio de Música y Adoración

    Embrace Oneness: Pray, Serve, Give is our October theme at CBC!  As we explore the book of Ephesians together, the Scripture calls us to,

Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit

through the bond of peace.

(Ephesians 4:3 NIV)

Unity in the church calls for our attitude, our prayers, our service, our generosity and our love for one another.  While all of these are important, as a CBC staff, we feel the greatest priority right now is prayer.

     Thus, we are calling our congregation at CBC to a month of increased prayer.  Every year we have at least one season of intensified prayer in our church.  Sometimes it is in the spring, sometimes in the fall, and occasionally on both.  This year we are doing both spring and fall.  October we are calling ourselves to be united in prayer for His church.

     There are a lot of great things happening at Calvary.  Our Student Center renovation was a complete success.  Our student ministry is growing this fall.  We are seeing people come to Christ and follow him in believer's baptism almost every week.  We have new members every month.  Our home fellowships are vibrant.  Our connecting point is in progress.  Our Wednesday night participation is up.  We are engaging hundreds of people through our community ministries.  Our WIT's feature lunch celebrates its 40th anniversary.  Men's ministry is expanding.  And we are making disciple-makers every week.  These are just a few of the great things God is doing.

     On the other side we are also facing some challenges.  Some of our projects seem to get delayed for unforeseen reasons.  Several of our leaders have loved ones with difficult medical situations.  We have marriages and families who are experiencing tremendous pressure.  And our church is behind on budget giving in a way in which we had not seen in many years.  These are a few of the challenges we face as we move forward into the Great Commission with the Great Commandment.  These are a reminder of our need to depend on God on a daily basis.

     Our staff feels like we really need to pray and seek God so that we stay united, so that the enemy is defeated, so that we don't get distracted from God's mission, and so that God can heal any wounds or hurts from the past.

     We would like to invite people to choose one day of the week where they will have a deeper focus on prayer interceding for the lost, the unity of our church, for workers in God's kingdom, and for the financing of God's mission through CBC.  Some may choose to fast one day a week.  However you choose to fast, or even if you are not able to fast, we ask that you dedicate more time to fervent prayer.

     Additionally, we call on Bible Fellowships, Home Fellowships, Huddles and other ministries to set aside more time for prayer in their sessions together.  It is at the group level also that participants can share more personal prayer requests as we pray for each other.

     At a church wide level the weekly prayer emphases will be as follows:

1. Unity in the Church (within CBC and across the RGV)
2. Deacon Screening and Nominating Process
3. Children's Ministry

Week 2 (October 13-19):

1. People far from God
2. the Connecting Point Project

3. ABFs, Home Fellowships, WIT and Men's ministry

Week 4 (October 27-November 2)

3. Music and Worship Ministry

   We hope you will join us!  Only God knows what He'll decide to do when we join our hearts and spirits together in one accord for the sake of His name.

Concentración de Servidores CBC

     ¡Qué verano tan bendecido hemos tenido en CBC!  Dios ha estado trabajando en nuestro ministerio infantil, ministerio estudiantil, nuestros esfuerzos misioneros, nuestros servicios de adoración, nuestros alcances comunitarios, nuestros grupos de conexión, nuestros grupos de vida, el inicio de obras para el "Punto de Conexión," y la renovación del Centro Estudiantil, entre otras cosas.         

     Estamos haciendo discipuladores para la gloria de Dios entre las naciones desde el más pequeño bebé hasta nuestros adultos mayores.  La gente está viniendo a Cristo, siguiéndolo en el bautismo, compartiendo su fe, uniéndose a grupos para continuar el proceso de multiplicación, y sirviendo al mundo localmente y globalmente.     

     Todo esto es posible por el Espíritu de Dios y por el pueblo de Dios.  Tu eres una bendición para CBC como servidor.  Tenemos cientos de servidores quienes invierten su tiempo, energía, talents y dones siguiendo el Gran Mandamiento y la Gran Comisión para la Gloria de Dios.  Estamos muy agradecidos por ese tesoro.

     Al lanzar el semester de otoño este año queremos reunirnos en una concentración de servidores de CBC para bendecir a Dios, celebrar sus bendiciones, y pedirle que nos bendiga en el año entrante.
