We Love Our Students

$600,000 by March 31st!  What does that mean?  When do we start the renovation of our Student Center?  How can you be a part of this exciting project?  That's what this post is about!

It's been four months since we launched a campaign for our Student Center Project.  "October Pledge Month" was the first opportunity people in our congregation had to make a pledge for a financial contribution above and beyond their church budget giving.  Much has happened since then.

Pledge and Giving Update

Over 200 families in our church have made a pledge and/or a contribution to the student center project.  We have received almost $425,000 in pledges and contributions and approximately half of the amount has already been received!  What a great expression of love and commitment for our students.  We praise God and thank our congregation for this.

Design and Project Management Update

When we launched "October Pledge Month" we had hired an architect to provide some initial drawings and we consulted with a construction contractor to estimate the possible cost according to those drawings.  Since then our design committee has made adjustments to the design.  We have hired an interior designer to ensure quality and excellence.  Here are a couple of our conceptual renderings:

You can see several more renderings on our Student Center Project page: http://studentcenterproject.com/project/

We have also hired another architect that will provide the plans to obtain the permit from the city of McAllen.  One of the things we are most excited about is the hiring of Ron Corbett as project manager.

We decided that because of the scope of our project and for cost reasons, we should not hire an outside general contractor but instead hire an internal project manager.  Ron Corbett is the right man for the job at the right time.  Ron has extensive experience in construction.  He brings the capital of skills, experience and relationships to the project that is invaluable.  Most of all, Ron loves Calvary and loves our students.  He will look out for the best interest of the church and the student ministry.  All of that at an extensive savings compared to a general contractor.  We are blessed!

Below is a communication flow chart of the various groups and individuals that are involved in our Student Center Project.

Additionally you can download the chart above along with a summary explanation of each component and the individuals who are part of the respective teams here.  (You may also download a chart that shows Calvary's governance and the roles of various leaders here).

Campaign Goal Update

Originally our Student Center Project Goal was set at $900,000.  With the adjustments that have been made and with the new information we have received, our Capital Fund Raising Team has announced a goal of $600,000 by March 31st.  The project leadership informs us that the renovation can start confidently once we have $600,000 committed.  The various teams are busy preparing for a possible April 1st start date once the pledges are in place.

Since we already have about $425,000 in pledges, we only need about $175,000 more!  If another 200 families join the initial 200 we will surpass the $600,000 goal with God's help.

If you have already pledged and are contributing financially to the project, we thank you and we ask you to continue to do so faithfully.  We are counting on you!  If you have not made a faith pledge above and beyond your budget giving yet, we ask you to prayerfully consider doing so.  We are very close and God can use you to make the difference.

Go to our Student Center Project webpage to enter your pledge or you can get a pledge card from one of the pews in our worship center.  You can also give online or you can give in the offering plate (as long as your enveloped is marked "student center project").

Most of all we ask you to pray for this project.  Pray for our students.  Pray for God's will to be done.  We trust God will be glorified in this and our students will know that we love them!
